Air Ducts & Vents

Duct Sealing in Jersey City

Leaky ductwork can lose a large share of the air your system works to heat or cool before it ever reaches a vent. Sealing those leaks is one of the most cost-effective energy upgrades for older Hudson County homes.

Stop Paying to Heat the Attic for Jersey City homes

Ducts that run through attics, basements and knee walls are joined with hundreds of seams. Over the years tape dries out, joints pull apart and boots separate from the ceiling. Every gap leaks conditioned air into unheated space and pulls dusty, unconditioned air back in on the return side.

We start by measuring how leaky the system is, then seal accessible joints by hand with fiber-reinforced mastic and UL-listed foil tape. For leaks buried behind walls and ceilings, we offer aerosol-based sealing that seals gaps from the inside without tearing anything open. A final test shows the before-and-after numbers.

Signs it's time to call

  • Some rooms are always too hot or too cold
  • Ducts run through an unconditioned attic or crawl space
  • Old cloth duct tape is peeling off the joints
  • Excessive dust even after cleaning
  • High heating and cooling bills for the size of the home

How we do it

  1. Duct leakage test to measure the starting point
  2. Visual inspection of accessible trunks, joints and boots
  3. Mastic and foil tape applied to accessible seams and connections
  4. Aerosol sealing for concealed ducts where appropriate
  5. Final leakage test and written results for your records

What you get

Even comfort

More air reaches the far rooms instead of escaping along the way.

Lower energy use

Your system runs less to hit the same thermostat setting.

Cleaner air

Sealed returns stop pulling in attic and basement dust.

Many Jersey City customers pair duct sealing with duct repair & replacement or attic air sealing, so both can be handled in one visit.

FAQ

Duct Sealing questions, answered

How much air do leaky ducts lose?

It varies widely, but energy agencies commonly estimate that typical duct systems lose 20 to 30 percent of the air moving through them. Our leakage test tells you what your own system is losing.

What is aerosol duct sealing?

The ducts are pressurized and a fine sealant mist is blown through them. The particles collect at leak edges and gradually close gaps from the inside, including in ducts you can't reach. Registers are covered so sealant only goes where the leaks are.

Should I seal or clean my ducts first?

Clean first. Sealing over dirt traps it in place, and cleaning afterward could disturb fresh seals. When both are needed, we schedule cleaning and sealing on the same visit in the right order.

Is duct tape good enough?

Ordinary cloth duct tape fails within a few years on ductwork. We use mastic and foil tape that are rated for duct systems and hold up to temperature swings.
